Stimulant Use in Philadelphia: Clinical and Community Perspectives
In light of increases in stimulant-involved fatal overdose, widening racial disparities in fatal overdose, and the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) and the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry (AAAP) release of “Clinical Practice Guidelines on Management of Stimulant Use Disorder”, there is a need for our healthcare and harm reduction communities to work together to advance care for people who use stimulants and address social and structural factors impacting health outcomes.
This program will refer to the ASAM/AAAP’s guidelines, share experiences from the Philadelphia Department of Public Health's Substance Use Prevention and Harm Reduction division's community engagement team, and review epidemiology related to stimulant use in Philadelphia.
A panel discussion will follow to discuss clinical, social, and structural factors that impact the health of people who use stimulants. Additionally, it will explore harm reduction, evidence-based practices, barriers to treatment, and ways to promote high quality healthcare.
