Non-Pharmacological Approaches to Improve Opioid Taper Success

Registration: https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_x1OFMgM5Q02k3mS6iXKXuw?emci=4ac9aad…

In this third and final installment of our three-part pain case series will explore interprofessional non-pharmacological strategies for tapering opioids in a patient-centered manner.  After prolonged opioid use to treat chronic pain, patients may have emotional, behavioral, social, or resource factors that can impact the success of an opioid taper.  Keeping patients whole by attending to these dimensions of their wellbeing can help care providers manage their patient’s expectations and guide shared decision making.  This case presentation will reflect on the role of interprofessional pain care, the value of patient pain education, and the role of physical therapy, mental health, and social support in chronic pain management.  Factors influencing successful outcomes and how to individualize care will be reviewed.

Objectives:

1). Apply 2022 CDC Pain Guidelines to patients with different opioid tolerance.

2). Review pharmacologic and non-pharmacological approaches to treating acute and chronic pain.
