Psychiatric Medications in Pregnancy and Lactation

This program is the second in a 4-part Perinatal Behavioral Health educational series sponsored by the Community Behavioral Health (CBH) Community-Based Care Management (CBCM) program.

The CBH CBCM program is designed to improve the behavioral health outcomes for Medicaid-eligible pregnant, postpartum and inter-conception people and their families through the following:

  • General principles of treatment for those who are pregnant or breastfeeding with mental health disorders
  • Guidance for prescribing psychiatric medications in the perinatal period
  • Balancing the risks of untreated mental illness in the perinatal period with the impact of medications on the fetus/infant
