Preceptor Update: Initiating MOUD in the Age of Fentanyl

Providers who completed waiver training prior to 2021 may benefit from updated instruction related to buprenorphine initiation and long acting injectable buprenorphine. Changes in the drug supply necessitate that prescribers abandon a one size fits all approach to induction and modify initiation to avoid precipitated withdrawal and minimize discomfort for patients who primarily use highly potent synthetic opioids such as fentanyl.

Additionally, this program includes a session describing the use of injectable buprenorphine with an emphasis on patient selection, site preparation, troubleshooting, and administration.

This session complements our MOUD Preceptor Program and offers an on-site observation with experienced faculty preceptors. This optional accredited opportunity is scheduled individually on a first come, first serve basis and are scheduled at least 4 weeks in advance. More information is available after registration for the didactic training is complete.
